The Indoor Rowing Trainer Course Is Now Live
Rowing Australia's Indoor Rowing Trainer Course is live: AUSactive approved, online, and built for coaches and PTs.

You can spot it from across the gym floor. A client three strokes into a row, arms snatching early, the back doing the work the legs should. You call out “use your legs”. They nod. Nothing changes.
Most trainers know that moment. The rower punishes guesswork, and almost none of us were ever taught to coach it.
Rowing Australia’s Indoor Rowing Trainer Course is now live, and it closes that gap. It is a fully online, self-paced course that teaches trainers and coaches how to deliver indoor rowing with confidence across all abilities: sound technique, set-up that fits each body, common faults and their fixes, and sessions that progress without burning people out. It is recognised by AUSactive and Physical Activity Australia, with CPD points available for accredited trainers.
The gap between using an erg and coaching it
Anyone can put a client on a rower. Coaching one is a different skill. The stroke is a sequence, legs then body then arms, and every fault you see on the floor is a break somewhere in that order. Once you know where to look, the faults become obvious. Once you know what to say, most of them are fixable inside a single session.
That is what the course builds. Set-up, sequencing, rhythm, and the cues that land fast. Simple regressions and progressions, so the same session works for a nervous beginner and a performance client sitting side by side. Pace, rate, and structure, so people improve week on week instead of just getting tired. A fault you can’t name is a fault you can’t fix. The course gives you the names.
Six months of Premium comes with it
Coaching sticks better when clients have structure between your sessions. For a limited time, course participants also receive six months of Row Nation Premium: four structured six-week programmes, delivered as video row-alongs with Australian rowers.
- Foundations & Flow: adults 50+, returning exercisers, all abilities. Calm pacing, breathing prompts, joint-friendly mobility.
- Power & Pace: improvers and competitive adults. Aerobic base, threshold, and sprint work.
- Rapid Reset: busy adults, 25 to 45, who want results inside real weeks. Short HIIT sets and recovery rows.
- Technique First: teens, developing athletes, and anyone rebuilding form. Drill-led skill work.
Each week runs the same simple shape for your clients: a coached row-along, a steady aerobic row, and 10 to 12 minutes of mobility or strength using nothing more than bands or bodyweight. Every block builds toward a clear test, so clients know what they are doing, why it matters, and how they are improving.

Who it suits
Personal trainers after a scalable, low-impact conditioning tool. Group fitness coaches running mixed-ability rooms. Strength and conditioning coaches who want conditioning they can actually measure. Clubs, schools, and facilities that need one consistent standard of delivery. The course is online and self-paced, so it works with whatever Concept2 you already have access to, at the gym, the club, or home.
The next client on the erg
The next time that busy, snatchy stroke appears across the floor, you won’t be guessing. You’ll see which link in the sequence broke, and you’ll have the words to fix it there and then. That client walks away moving better. You become the trainer who can coach the one machine most gyms leave uncoached.
